Dear Community,
Now is your chance to suggest ideas and/ or volunteer for Participatory Budget.
Participatory budget is a community’s chance to spend 1 million dollars. There are two types of projects, capital and expense. Capital projects need to be 50k or more and be construction type. Expense projects can be at least 5k and designated for a nonprofit's use for programmatic purposes.
Projects that have passed in the past, are district wide water fountains and tech for schools, new school play yards, bus stop timers , dog park, district wide tree plantings and so on. All great projects , brainstormed and voted on by community members like yourselves.
Please share this link with other parents. If you do not live in district 22, you can pick the district you live in and participate that way.
Don’t wait too long though, ideas are being gathered now through Jan 23. After that community volunteers will decide on which ideas might get onto the ballot for April voting.
To learn more, give your ideas or volunteer, go to this link: https://www.participate.nyc.gov/processes/ccdistrict22

September 2021
Dear Families and Friends of Community School District 30,
I am excited to welcome you and the 30,000 students of District 30 to the 2021-2022 school year! I want to thank you deeply for your support and collaboration throughout these difficult times. Together, our community has grown closer and become stronger and continues to go above and beyond the call of duty.
This year, we continue to fight through the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, District 30 is committed to the health and safety of our children, families, and staff members. Our schools will continue to follow the guidelines shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), our Mayor, and Chancellor to provide students with safe and healthy learning environments. District 30 schools will provide frequent cleaning and disinfecting, adequate ventilation, continue COVID-19 testing for students and staff and will require face coverings in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, our schools will encourage and provide access to vaccinations against COVID-19 in order to protect our community from serious illness. (You may learn more at schools.nyc.gov/covid19). My hope is that with these strategies in place we will begin to see an end to this pandemic.
In addition to the physical health and safety of our students, families, and staff, our primary goal this year is to ensure students are equipped with the academic and social emotional supports that they need to succeed. Our schools are prepared to welcome each and every student with open arms by intentionally affirming their experiences, backgrounds, and identities while maintaining high expectations for success.
Our District has set goals in order to bolster the core academic content areas (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), sustain supportive school environments and to advance equity. To achieve these initiatives, our District will enter its second year of implementation of the New York State Integration Project (NYSIP). All of our schools will engage in professional learning for school staff and family workshops designed to increase understanding of implicit biases, social-emotional learning (SEL), culturally responsive and sustaining education (CR-SE), Habits of Mind, and Principles of Learning through partnerships with The CAVU Group and Learner Centered Initiatives (LCI). We will also continue working with New York City Kids Rise to support families in saving for college, and sustain our partnerships with community organizations to connect resources to where they are needed.
Parents and families are the first teachers and the biggest supporters of their children. Now, more than ever it is of utmost importance to work together alongside teachers, school staff, and school administrators to maximize our children’s potential and achievement while allowing for a positive, safe, and healthy school year for all.
Sincerely,
Dr. Philip A. Composto
Superintendent
Community School District 30

Atentamente,
Dr. Philip A. Composto
Superintendente
Distrito Escolar Comunitario 30
